  LHFA 2008: GREATEST TEAMS LEAGUE
Posted by Commish @ Sun Dec 09, 2007 7:48 pm
Well gents, the LHFA2007 season is winding down. There are only 9 games, including postseason, left until the completion of the 2007 year. Thus, it is time to start thinking and talking about LHFA2008!

Now, I have sensed that this season coaches have become a little jaded to the league. And, to be honest, I have experienced this a little myself. The format of each LHFA season, from the team selection process to the Sub-Shop Classic, has pretty much remained unchanged since the 2003 season. To counter this, I am contemplating a few things, but not until the 2009 season. I think the 2009 season could be a huge year, in that things will be changing rather dramatically. Thus, the next season - LHFA2008 - is not so much a "transition" year, as much as it may be either just a break from the normal format, or a salutation to the normal format.

For LHFA2008, I have spoken with several coaches about some ideas for the format. The format I like best, and one I think has received the most support, is that in 2008 we will NOT use the teams from the NFL 2007 season (for the most part). In 2007, the teams to be used will be any past LHFA roster, going back to the 2000 season. Basically, it will be a "great teams" LHFA season. Each coach will select a LHFA team from the past, and their roster will start with that complete squad. The stats used will still be the NFL stats, not those accumulated in that LHFA season. The free agent process/draft pool will be made up of LHFA players from all past years, who are not on any LHFA roster. The draft will also work a little different than in the past. Instead of using a pure draft, the beginning of the draft will incorporate a "bidding process" where all teams will have an opportunity to land the best available players. This is a process we may use in future seasons, so next season will be a test.

Anyway, instead of using the standard "team selection process" each coach will be asked to select one of his past teams to use in the league. If a coach decides against using ANY of his teams, then you will need to wait until after "round 1." Round 1 is basically giving each coach an opportunity to use one of his teams. The coaches who wish to use someone else's team will thus need to wait until Round 2. In other words, each coach gets first crack at his own team. The coaches who wait until Round 2 will then be asked to submit a list of 4 teams, ranked in order, that they would like to select. Every effort will then be made to provide each coach with a highly-ranked team on his list. Thus there is no order of team selection process as in past years.

Upon completion of the regular season, I will put together a season file, which will have all 108 teams from seasons 2000-2007 (even Carl's teams!). Each coach will then be asked to select one of their teams by the end of the year, or they may pass and investigate available teams in round 2. Once each coach has a team, the free-agent pool will be compiled and distributed. Upon completion of the 2007 season, we will discuss the date for the 2008 draft.

A couple of notes:

1.) For those who traded for draft picks, you will still get that benefit. You will either be awarded some of the other team's money to be used for bidding, thus increasing your ability to sign the best players. Or, you may defer using the picks until 2009 (in case we discontinue use of the bidding process after the 2008 season).

2.) There will still be a first-pick game at the end of this season! The winner of that game will get first pick in the 2009 season.

3.) Duplicates of players WILL be allowed across selected teams. Thus, if both 2001 Jacksonville and 2005 Pittsburgh are selected, Peyton Manning will be on both teams. However, players on selected teams will then NOT be in the free-agent pool.

4.) A handful of players from the 2007 NFL season will be added to the pool. Tom Brady's 2007 season is too ridiculous to NOT have in the LHFA...even though Brady, for whatever reason, has historically sucked in the LHFA.

It's about time someone beat the Mighty Simon (Senior, not Junior... everyone beat's Junior). No excuses this time! No "I almost killed the family driving home," no "Ben spit up on my keyboard," & no "I was still digesting dinner".

It's not my fault you fielded a High School team. For once, I can say that the game wasn't luck! For once, I didn't win on a Flea Flicker! This is a great day in the LHFA!

Now... if I can only beat Knisely....
